Janet Carleton Provenzano (ballet and pointe instructor)
Janet brings her wealth of experience to Miami Valley Ballet Theatre students. Janet taught at and ran her own studio for 50 years before deciding to retire! Janet can teach at any level, but is an expert at pointe, as well as character dance. Janet has not only danced, but has mentored students that have gone on to dance for ballet companies around the United States.
Kodee VanNort (ballet, pointe, modern instructor)
Kodee Van Northas an extensive background of dance training, performance, and pedagogy. She holds a BA in Theater and Dance from the University of Wyoming. While pursuing her degree she performed with the Wyoming Touring Company where she danced a variety of original roles including “While Buffalo Woman” from the ballet Winter Moons to contemporary roles of “Meander” in The River. After completing her degree, she continued to perform and work as assistant choreographer and soloist at The Cherokee National Heritage Centers Trail of Tears. Teaching being her interest, Kodee pursued her studies at Sam Houston State University where she received her MFA in dance performance. While working on her Masters she danced with Spectrum Dance Company and Houston Dance Coalition. Her performance credits include Cindy Carpenter Dance Company, Austin Dance Company and Ad Hoc Improv Company in Manchester, England. Since moving to Cincinnati she has been a part of the Choreographer’s Without Companies for the past 10 years working such choreographers as Cheryl Wallace, Diane Germaine, Susan Moser, Judith Mikita, Fanchon Shur, Jason Hatcher, Jeri Gatch, and Demetrius Klein. Teaching credits include University of Wyoming, Sam Houston State University, Academy of Dance Arts, Anneliese Von Oettingen School of Ballet, and Cincinnati Ballet.
Melissa Slater (Ballet Instructor)
Melissa began her dance training at the age of 4 with Janet Carleton. Throughout her childhood she studied with teachers under Janet, as well as teachers at CCM. Melissa attended summer study at the National Ballet School of Canada. Melissa taught for Janet Carleton, before pursuing a career in business and spending time with her husband. We are excited to have Melissa teaching our level 3 students for the second year with MVBT!
Amanda Lopez-Kurtz (modern, ballet instructor)
Amanda Lopez-Kurtz is an arts administrator, dance educator, organizer, and artist living and working in Cincinnati, Ohio. She received her BFA in Dance and a MA in Art History from Ohio University, where she studied contemporary performance art and theory and disability studies and performed in works by Stefanie Batten Bland, Sean Curran, Marina Walchli, Travis Gatling, and Ruben Graciani. Most recently, Amanda has worked for Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle after being with Movement Research in New York City and serving as Artistic Director of Factory Street Studio in Athens, Ohio. She has performed with independent choreographers and companies around the country including Noelle Chun, Pe|Mo physical theater group, Julie Cruse, Rachel James, and Alyza Delpan-Monley and has presented work at the Performance and Time Arts Series as well as with the Athens Dance Collective. She is delighted to be back in Cincinnati, and is excited to be moving into her third season as a faculty member at MVBT!
